NINETY YEARS of HOLISM –
IIOHM & IIOHH
Ninety years ago Jan Smuts, Prime Minister of South Africa, published his magnum opus, HOLISM and EVOLUTION. It was a superb overview and integration of the rapidly expanding science of physics and medicine, with the overriding concept being that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts and that every aspect of science and the humanities needed to be integrated. In 1971, as a neurosurgeon managing chronic pain, I sensed the remarkable deficit of conventional medicine in dealing with the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of patients who failed conventional medicine. I became particularly interested in spiritual healing and intuitive approaches to life. My innovative Pain Rehabilitation Center laid the foundation for the Holistic approach and was featured in 1972 in an article in PARADE magazine. In 1976 the Association of Holistic Health was founded and in 1978 I led the beginning of the American Holistic Medical Association. In 1980 Charlotte McGuire started the American Holistic Nurses Association. In the intervening decades Energy Medicine, Complementary and Alternative Medicine and Integrative Medicine have become various aspect of the evolution of medicine. Finally Holos University Graduate Seminary was established at the beginning of the 21st century to provide doctoral research and degrees fulfilling the Holistic paradigm. I sense that no term other than HOLISTIC can replace the broadest concepts of true Holistic Medicine. Thus, this 90th year of Holism introduces the International Institute of Holistic Medicine and the International Institute of Holistic Health, providing the most comprehensive Holistic clinical and educational practices together.
Health is the natural state of being: free of anxiety, depression, and symptoms that nag you that body and mind are not functioning normally. The key is Self-Regulation, the ability to detach from those aspects of life that one cannot change and to focus on creating inner peace and harmony. Just as there are many roads to Rome, there are many tools for Self-Regulation, including the broad field of Energy Medicine to optimize nutrition, biochemistry, strength, vigor, endurance, mental peace and spiritual attunement. The primary focus of IIOHM is based upon the 44 year experience of C. Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D., creator of TENS, in working with over 30,000 individuals who had suffered from incapacitating pain, depression and the wide variety of problems that are not helped by conventional modern medicine. The Medical Director is Sergey Sorin, M.D. who has specialized in Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Music/Sound Therapy.
IIOHM offers individuals the opportunity for a new beginning and transformational experience. Services include:
- Be in present time
- Sensory biofeedback with autogenic training, progressive relaxation, circulating electrical energy, breathing through, self-love, collecting and release, expanding electromagnetic field
